The best family vacations in the Spring break will depend a lot on the ages of your children in terms of the experiences that may be open to you. If your children are very young, don’t rule out international destinations as babies may open the doors with locals that you might be more difficult to open when travelling as adults.

Scotland

Scotland has magical, unique islands. From Lewis and Harris in the Western Isles, to the wonderful Isle of Skye, the diversity of the landscapes and culture will be enjoyed as part of your family vacations. Explore stunning, rocky coastlines and discover megalithic structures, or simply try speaking Gaelic whilst savouring Britain’s unspoilt beauty during a Spring break.

Yellowstone National Park

For wild west adventure, try Yellowstone National Park. A great place for toddlers to teenagers, though age will dictate activities, but the drama of Yellowstone will amaze children and parents. Yellowstone is one of the best places to camp in the USA and ‘Old Faithful’, the most famous of all the geysers erupts seventeen times daily, so you won’t miss it. There is also a Junior Ranger programme, with guides for children ages 4 and older to navigate the park together.

Costa Rica

A jungle safari is an ideal spring break for school-age children with direct flights available from 2016. Costa Rica has a rich variety of wildlife: sloths, monkeys and macaws, poison-arrow frogs and other bizarre mini beasts. Zip-lining and river-rafting opportunities are perfect for thrill-seeking family members, although parents may prefer to relax in the natural hot springs of the volcano slopes.

Rome, Italy

The ultimate family city break. Babies are adored here, and it’s short-haul, but teens will be equally happy wandering the Eternal City. Come to Rome for the history, which is spectacular, but you may find a lazy afternoon meal in a piazza becomes the most memorable moment of your trip. While you could spend weeks here, Rome also works well for a short spring break. This centre of ancient history, fantastic cuisine, and stunning beauty will please even the grumpiest adolescents. Particularly if you take breaks for gelato and Roman pizza.

Paris, France

Paris has a lot to offer: The Eiffel Tower, the Sacre-Coeur Cathedral, the Notre-Dame, the Louvre. Take a trip on the metro and get off a stop early to walk through the streets of Paris, stopping off at a patiesserie for a sweet treat or a fresh baguette. France also has some great beaches for anyone willing to take a train out of Paris for a few hours. There’s L’Ile de Riou in Marseille and Baie d’Audierne in Brittany.
